Are you cut out for this?

A fellow business coach suggested that only a tiny fraction of people trying to make it in business are “cut out” to be entrepreneurs.

Her reasoning was that people don’t want to do the hard work and they complain too much. (Wasn’t she complaining as she said this?)

I get impatient with this kind of gatekeeping. The thing that I like most about small business is that anybody can do it.

In my early twenties, I moved to Atlanta with no job lined up.

I had no job in the town I was leaving, either. I had been cobbling together a few part-time things, so I really didn’t see the point in trying to save up money before I left. I just peaced out.

This actually sort of worked for me, but only because my standards were so low. I didn’t expect to have nice things, financial security, or stability.

It’s good to steal helpful tactics from anywhere you can find them.

So many of the interesting solutions I’ve come up with were adapted from other industries or disciplines for application in my own.

One example is the “couch to 5K” concept that gets beginning runners into action to the point at which they are able to run and walk continuously for long enough to complete a 5K race.
